So I haven't been blogging in forever. I didn't forget about it, actually it was kind of a nagging feeling of guilt that I haven't been keeping up with something else. To be honest, this school year has been a lot less busy at school (thank goodness) and busier with Outschool (also thank goodness), but still some things haven't been consistent- Blogging, TPT store, and probably something else I'm forgetting.
So with 6 days left of teaching preschool in person and gearing up for summer on Outschool, here is the rundown of what is going on with Allie P's Practical Preschool.
Teaching preschool...
It's been a little tricky this year with Covid restrictions. My classroom could not function how I really wanted and going from 5 full days to 3 half-days was difficult, to say the least. I felt I just needed more time, so at the end of the year, I am feeling bittersweet. I will miss my first class but I also feel like I let them down. I want to do so much more them and I feel like we're getting to the sweet spot when they get into deep play so quickly and I can support their learning in a real way instead of the superficial stuff like colors and shapes. The real stuff in preschool is sparking curiosity, asking questions and digging deep into their interests, solving problems with their peers. I'm hoping we can get there sooner next year, especially without masks. I already have a bunch of big ideas of things I want to do better next year.
My Outschool classroom has changed, too. I went from doing lots of camps and one-time classes to on-going classes with lots of the same students week after week. It was a welcome change for me. I liked seeing the growth in my students over time and connecting with them about some real-life things, too. My current on-going classes are both for reading- Beginning to Read and Ready to Read. Ready to Read was created for some of my students that were ready to move on, which is a great feeling. I also have listed several Flex classes in the last several months- 2 cooking classes, and one social-emotional class. I'll list all the classes with their links below.
Coming up this summer is Kindergarten Boot Camp, my most popular class from last summer. I have 4 sections listed for now and we will see what happens if they fill up. I also have a brand-new writing class for preschoolers. This is completely age-appropriate writing class that encourages mark-making and storytelling in any way that children are ready to express their thoughts. I am super excited to teach this class, but like any of my classes I am also nervous. It always depends on my students, and how excited they are for the class.

Stay tuned because I'm painting my classroom this summer (and I hope the rest of the preschool, too) so before and after pictures to come!
